Your best source of pain relief when you can’t get in to see your friendly neighborhood chiropractor may surprise you. While most of us in this society have been conditioned to reach for the ibuprofen, Tylenol, aspirin, or Aleve when we have various aches and pains, these medications come with potentially dangerous side effects if you take too much, if you consume them with alcohol on the same day, or if you take them on an empty stomach.
So, what do I recommend? The latest research shows that there is a product out there that out-performs the typical over-the-counter pain relievers and it’s so safe that it doesn’t even come with a warning label! It even may help protect you from diabetes and Alzheimer’s. What is this magic supplement?
Fish Oil!!
The source of most of our pain is inflammation – inflammation from stress, injury, poor diet, and lack of sleep. Fish oils contain omega-3 fatty acids that have powerful anti-inflammatory effects. The recommended dosage is 1.5 to 5 grams per day of EPA/DHA-containing fish oils. The only reason to not take fish oil would be if you take anti-coagulant medication.
“In patients suffering from chronic pain subsequent to degenerative spinal disease, 59% can eliminate the need for pain drugs by consuming adequate levels of omega-3 fatty acids. (Surgical Neurology, 2006)
